Ladies V Ricky Bahl may not be the movie of the year but it definitely has its moments. The film begins on a breezy note with con man (Ranveer kapoor) duping his girl friend (delightful Parineeti Chopra) and her family. Then the action shifts to Mumbai where Ranveer cons the IIT –IIM educated Reyna (Dipannita Sharma) posing as an art exhibitor. Later, he poses as a reticent trader of zardozi designs to con innocent widow (Aditi Sharma) and her family.
The film shifts gears when the three women come together and hire a pushy sales girl (Anushka Sharma) to con the conman. They manage to track Ranveer, who is looking for his next prey in Goa. The action then shifts to Goa where Anushka is on a mission to get all the dirty money back to the three women from Ranveer. What follows is more predictable set of events with little surprises. Films’ narrative is somewhat labouring in parts especially owing to some songs which are appear randomly almost taking the attention of viewers away from the action. The films climax is also somewhat predictable and should appeal to masses. The fact that the ladies manage to get money out of Ranveer with utmost ease doesnot quiet go down well. Also the love story that begins between Ranveer and Anushka is also a bit unconvincing. The two actors who sizzled in the Band Baaja Baaraat do not quiet generate the same chemistry here.
As with most Yash raj films the production value is superb. Cinematography is eye-catching. Dialogues are for honest and refreshing. Music by Salim Sulieman just about passes the muster with the one or two catchy numbers especially Aadat se Majboor.
The film becomes more than watchable for its performances. Ranveer Singh in his second outing is pleasing on the eye and he indeed puts in a completely believable performance as a cool con-man. He gets ample opportunity to flaunt his nicely chiselled body as well as his acting talent. Anushka Sharma does justice to her role but is not as enterprising as her male co-star. The films’ backbone is its supporting cast. Parineeti Chopra as Dimple Chadda is simply amazing. She is clearly a scene stealer throughout the movie. She infuses fresh energy into the film every time she comes on screen. Aditi Sharma as a muslim widow is convincing and does a very good job. Dipannita Sharma as a hard-nosed corporate women also puts in a earnest performance.
In all Ladies V Ricky Bahl is definitely worth a watch even with all its flaws. It is mass entertainer and has some good moments. It is definitely worth a dekhoJ
